About.

Wendy Huyghe is a Belgian author and scriptwriter.

She started her career as a journalist and columnist for the Belgian newspaper ’Het Nieuwsblad’ and combined this with freelance work for Radio, TV (MTV / TMF Veejay) and several publishing houses. Next, she stepped into the humanitarian world, and for ten years covered stories and created mini documentaries for NGOs and newspapers about displacement, gender and climate change in Southeast Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. Quite big topics, but Wendy always tried to look for the little stories and familiar feelings that connect us all.

As Wendy likes to get inside the minds of the people she interviews, she now uses this experience in her fictional work. She co-wrote ’Sea Sparkle’ (Zeevonk), her first feature, that opened the Generation section at the Berlinale 2023, where it received a special mention. Since then, the film travelled more than 50 filmfestivals worldwide.

For her scriptwriting, she teams up with her brother, director Domien Huyghe. The pair seeks to place diverse and layered young characters in an inspiring fictional or real world.  They are now working on their second feature film, ‘Amari’, selected for Torino Scriptlab 2023.

She is also the creator and writer of two TV shows in development: ’Tommy Pepper’, an animated series for the Belgian TV channel Ketnet and ’Skate or Hate’, a drama series selected for the training programme Torino Serieslab 2021.

Wendy has adapted ’Sea Sparkle’ into a young adult novel. It was published as ‘Zeevonk’ (Pelckmans, 2022) and was nominated for the Leesjury 2023 . She’s currently working on her second novel, Carousel, a feminist dystopian trilogie, to be released in 2025..

Wendy lives in Ghent with her two blossoming teenagers. Never a dull moment or lack of inspiration...
